Internal Drivers or External Drivers?

Every LED device, including household lamps found in large retail stores, requires internal components (technically known as DRIVERS) capable of providing the necessary current for the LEDs to operate.

Internal Drivers or External Drivers?

When designing lamps, manufacturers must choose whether to integrate the drivers within the lamp itself or to include them in an external power supply.

  1. Internal drivers within the lamp: The power supply voltage provided to the lamp can be alternating current (AC voltage).
  2. External drivers outside the lamp: The voltage provided to the lamp will be direct current (DC voltage).

In the first case, the electronics within the system (i.e., LEDs and drivers) will be protected by the mechanical integrity of the lamp. In the second case, it is essential to ensure that external power supplies are housed in dry environments and kept away from moisture.
